December 6 – Sunday Worship Celebration (Advent continues),10 a.m. (watch live

On last Sunday, we lit the first candle on the Advent Wreath, The Prophecy Candle, in honor of the Old Testament prophets who foretold the coming of Christ. This Sunday, we light the second candle on the Advent Wreath, The Bethlehem Candle, in honor of the city of David in which our Savior was born. The prophet Micah says, “But you, O Bethlehem…who are little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient of days.” The name “Bethlehem” means the House of Bread; and it was in the House of Bread that God gave us the “Bread of Life!” Thanks be unto God!

The first candle on the Advent Wreath is The Prophecy Candle. The second candle is The Bethlehem Candle. This Sunday, we light the third purple candle on the wreath, The Shepherd’s Candle. This candle honors of the shepherds who heard the angelic announcement that a Savior has been born. We remember that those shepherds were the first witnesses of our Savior’s birth. We light this candle to honor the shepherds who went to worship the new born king.

Sermon Title: It Will Be Worth The Wait

Scripture: Isaiah 40:1-11

Pastor Gordon called us out this past Sunday on our impatience with God’s plan. We don’t like it when God has us waiting or has placed us on a divine pause. We don’t want to wait; we want instant gratification.

A new day is coming, and what God has in store for us will be worth the wait:

1. Trouble won’t last always!
2. Prepare for your release!
3. With God timing is everything!

During the four Sundays of Advent, we light three purple candles and one pink or rose colored candle. These are the colors of Advent as Purple is the color of royalty demonstrating our anticipation of the coming King of Kings. The first candle is The Prophecy Candle to remind us of God’s promise of the Christ through the prophets. The second candle on the advent wreath is The Bethlehem Candle is the city of David where the Christ child would be born. The third candle is The Shepherd’s Candle a symbol of joy. Today, we light the pink or rose colored candle on the wreath, which is The Angels’ Candle. It is the candle of joy and rejoicing and the color change is used to remind us that a shift is about to take place, the Christ Child’s birth is imminent. This candle is in honor of the Angels who announced to the shepherds that a Savior has been born. As the angels announced the birth of Christ, they praised his arrival at the same time by singing, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace with those whom he has found favor.”

Sermon Title: God’s Surprises
Scripture: Luke 1:26-38, 46-49 (NRSV)

This past Sunday's sermon, a lesson about God's favor was a perfect follow-up from the previous Sunday when Pastor Gordon taught us "It Will Be Worth The Wait."

While it seems this past year, we have been living in a season of broken promises that have caused broken spirits. God has a way of changing things around, so we are walking in God's Plan.

Advent is the season of surprise, anticipation & expectation! God is in the blessing business, and as Pastor Gordon told us, God doesn't waste his blessings:

1. God's surprises come with God's favor.
2. God's surprises push us out of our comfort zones.
3. God's surprises challenges our faith.
